Extracurricular Activities

This is a list of the extracurricular activities that are offered at O'Bannon. This list may change from one year to the next. Hopefully you will find something that interests you!

Basketball - (Girls - Grades 4-5) - There are 2 teams (red and black). There are 8 positions available for each team. Both teams play at home meets in an inter-squad meet. During these games, every girl gets to play. If there are other schools available for games, then only the starting team for each group will play. Girls need to be in good standing with their grades and in their classrooms.

    * Mondays 3:15 - 4:30

Lego Robotics - (Grades 3-5) - runs from September to November. If the team qualifies for State, then there will be additional practice in December. Students are recommended by their teacher based on grades, attendance and ability to work well with others. Participants must complete an application to be chosen for the team. Using Legos, students build the table pros, the robot, create a presentation for Core Values, Robotics Operations, and a Team Project. Students have to share the projects with others.

    * 7:30 - 8:30 am AND 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Mileage Club - (Grades K-5) - This club aims to get kids more active by encouraging them to walk or run every day. Any student can participate during recess, weather permitting.

O'Buddies - (Grades K-5) - Student participation is most often by teacher recommendation

Patrol

Reading Club - (Grade 2) - Students are chosen based on teacher recommendation. Groups meet after school 2 days each week in the spring to get students excited about reading and help them reach their grade level goals by the end of the year.

Reading Rangers

Running Club - (Boys and Girls, Grades 3-5) - Runners will practice 2 days per week during September and October until the Highland 5K Run. Participants will need to complete an application to be chosen for the team. The number of boys and girls allowed to participate will be determined in the fall.

    * Tuesdays and Fridays
    * 3:20 - 4:30


Science Fair - (Grades K-5) - Participants must use the scientific process to complete a science experiment. The science fair entry should be an experiment, not a model. Experiments are scored higher than models. Participants will present their entry to judges and answer questions about their project.

Science Olympiad - (Grades 3-5) - runs from January to April. The team is formed by teacher recommendations. Participants have to complete an applications. Things that are considered when choosing a team: grades, attendance, ability to work with others, and willingness to study for events.
Olympians train for three or four events. Practice times vary. Students who miss more than three practices and don't let the coaches know can be removed from the team. The season ends with the Science Olympiad Competition in April.

Student Council

Web Xplorers - (Grades K-5) - Students are chosen based on teacher recommendation. Groups meet after school 2 days per week to learn about different programs on the computer. Takes place in the spring
