Dismissal Procedures

Kindergarten Dismissal Procedure

Please note that it is different from other grade levels.

Car riders

All students who will be riding home in a car will be picked up from Door O. PARENTS WILL NOT BE PARKING AND GETTING OUT OF THEIR CARS. Instead, parents will pull in to the back lot on 172nd street. They will stay to the right and pull up to the designated stop area in a line. All Kindergarten parents will have a blue piece of paper with their child's name and teacher written on it. This paper MUST be displayed in the passenger window of your vehicle. A teacher with a walkie-talkie will use this information to call your child out of the building. Your child will then come directly to your car. The children will not come outside the building until the teacher with the walkie-talkie calls for them. After your child is in your vehicle, you will simply exit the parking lot allowing other parents to enter and pick up their child.

If you have an older child who will be riding home with your child, that information needs to be written on the bottom of your blue paper in large letters. You will also need to let your child's teacher know this information before the first day of school. Additionally, that child will have to walk down to the kindergarten dismissal area and wait with your kindergarten child (third grade pod).

This dismissal procedure will help keep the children and the parents out of the inclement weather. It will also keep your children safe because they won't be walking through moving cars. This will also help cut down on the parking lot congestion. This procedure works well once everyone becomes familiar with the process.  We ask for your patience during the first few weeks of school!

All kindergarten students who walk home from school will be dismissed from Door P. Parents who are walking with their children will have to go to door P and tell the staff member (this will probably be Mrs. Bradford) who is waiting there who they are picking up so the staff member can make note of it.  Please do not signal for any of the children to come out of the door on their own. You must tell the adult at the door. Students who will walk home with an older brother or sister will meet their siblings inside the building and then exit together from Door A. Please let your child's teacher know before the first day of school if your child will be walking and who will be walking your child home.

Bus riders

Bus riders will not be affected by this procedure. However, it is important to let your child's teacher know if your child is taking the bus and which bus your child will be riding.

IMPORTANT:  All parents must call their child's teacher prior to the first day of school to let her know how your child will be going home. Voice mail messages are acceptable as long as it includes all the necessary information.  You may also send an email.  Anytime there is a change in your child's dismissal routine, you will need to let your child’s teacher or the office staff know.   If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about our dismissal procedure, please call 989-7360.
